Built for Battle League - Card Game FAQ

1. What is Built for Battle TCG?

Built for Battle TCG is a two-player cosplay-themed trading card game that lets you collect, trade, and battle using real cosplayers as playable characters. It blends cosplay, creativity, and competition in a fun, strategic format. This game is created alongside the live action cosplay combat events that we are working on creating for upcoming shows. This game not only acts as a fun interactive game that puts your favorite cosplayers against each other, but is also a new and creative way to showcase your cosplay work. It provides cosplayers an opportunity to use their cards as promotional items to sell, trade, and collect with their friends and fans.

2. How do I become a character in the card game?

You can sign up using our [Participant Form]. Once submitted, we’ll send you a Participation Agreement to sign and then request payment to begin creating your official card.

Our first test run of this game will be open temporarily for the first 20 players who are interested. After that, we will create a Kickstarer campaign that will allow more people the opportunity to join in on this game and to have your own card created.

For more information about how you can join, be sure to sign up for our Wait List to find out when our Kickstarter goes live.

3. What do I get when I pay the $45 participation fee?

You receive:

  • 50 physical copies of your custom player card. Each card will include your preferred name/alias, social media handle, a brief bio, HP level, 2 Attacks, 1 Ability, Photographer Credit

  • A digital proof for approval before printing

  • A high-res digital version for promo use

  • Your card included in official booster packs and starter decks (limited to 50 for this run)

4. Can I order more than 50 cards of myself?

Yes! Add-on options are available:

  • 200 cards = +$20 ($65 total)

  • 400 cards = +$40 ($85 total)

The more you order, the cheaper the per-card cost becomes.

5. Can I increase the power level of my card?

Yes! All player cards are assigned stats (HP, Attack Power) based on our Tier & Popularity system. You can optionally increase your card’s power stats for a small additional fee. This makes your card more competitive and collectible.

6. How are stats determined?

We base your card’s stats on:

  • A Tier Level you select (Standard, Advanced, Elite, Legendary)

  • Your social media following (to calculate bonuses)

  • You’ll choose two unique attack moves with damage amounts within your tier limits.

7. Do I need to own the photo used on the card?

You need permission from the photographer. Both you and the photographer will need to approve the image. The photographer’s handle will be credited directly on the card design.

8. How are the cards used in the game?

Each player builds a deck using Player Cards and various Action and Event cards. You battle others using dice rolls, special abilities, and strategic timing. A Game Mat is recommended for organized play and can be sold separately.

9. Will I be paid royalties for my card?

Not at this time. You retain the 50 copies you purchase and may sell them at your own price. However, you give us limited rights to include your image in our decks, booster packs, and promotional materials for this initial print run. Additional cards can be created during your order for an extra fee.

10. Can I request changes after my card is approved?

Once your card is approved and sent to print, no changes can be made. If you'd like a new version in the future (different photo, stat upgrades, etc.), a new submission and payment would be required.

11. What if I don’t get approved?

We reserve the right to reject submissions that don’t meet our image quality, appropriateness, or licensing standards. If your application is denied, any payment made will be fully refunded.

12. How much are the Starter Decks and Booster Packs?

  • Starter Decks (40 cards): $30 – includes the recommended number of cards to play the game.

  • Booster Packs (8–10 cards): $7 – great for expanding your deck or collecting more characters.

13. Do I need anything else to play?

We recommend purchasing a Game Mat ($35) which helps organize gameplay. Only one is needed per 2 players.

14. When will cards be printed and shipped?

Once your digital proof is approved, your cards will go into production. Cards are expected to ship within 3–4 weeks after approval.
